What does it mean that new graves cannot be visited often? Why can't we visit new graves often?

In the traditional Chinese concept, a tomb is not only the place where the body is buried, but also the destination of the soul of the deceased. In some places, there is a saying that a new grave cannot be built outside the community. So what does it mean? Why can’t we visit new graves often?

What does "新墓不不社" mean?

"New graves cannot be visited before the Spring Festival": New graves refer to graves within three years. This means that tomb sweeping for new graves (less than three years old) must be done before the Spring Festival.
Generally speaking, ancestor worship is mostly done during the Qingming Festival in March and the Ghost Festival in July, especially tomb sweeping and hanging green on Qingming Festival. This custom exists in most parts of my country. The purpose is to commemorate the ancestors and offer sacrifices to them. According to Anqing customs, the Qingming Festival for sweeping new graves should be held before the Spring Festival. Brothers and sisters are divided on this, as the Spring Festival is the fifth day after the Beginning of Spring.

Why can't we visit new graves often?

1. There is a reason why you cannot visit new graves often. If you stay in the cemetery for a long time, you may be contaminated by some unclean things, especially for parents who have just had children. Even if you miss your elderly, you should not go in and out of the graves frequently. The graves are still relatively new at this time, and some unworkable things may happen. By that time, the disease may be brought to the children in the family.
2. Some people say that if you miss your deceased relatives, you can go to the grave to burn incense and worship Buddha at any time, but don't go empty-handed. If you often go to worship new graves, but every time you go empty-handed and don't bring anything, then you may get some unlucky words. There is actually nothing wrong if people visit graves frequently, provided that people are not stingy, because the ones lying there are indeed their parents, and it seems reasonable to send them some blessings and yellow paper.
