Shangri-La

The best tourist season is from May to July and from September to October.

Shangri-La, Yunnan is located on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the northern end of the southern section of the Hengduan Mountains, and the hinterland of the "Three Parallel Rivers". It has formed a unique landscape of snow-melt mountains, canyons, grasslands, alpine lakes, virgin forests and ethnic customs. It is a multifunctional tourist scenic spot. The Shangri-La Scenic Area is full of snow-capped peaks, including the majestic Kawagebo Peak, the highest peak in Yunnan Province.

In Shangri-La (Zhongdian) County alone, there are 470 snow-capped mountains with an altitude of more than 4,000 meters. The canyons are crisscrossed and deep, the most famous of which are the Tiger Leaping Gorge of the Jinsha River and the Lancang River Canyon. There are also vast alpine grassland pastures, vast virgin forests and numerous alpine lakes, making Diqing's natural landscape magical, steep, clear and beautiful.
