Writing format

The text of the bundle is arranged vertically, and the contents of each column from right to left are as follows (as shown below):

First column: Prepare x amount of paper money for the underworld during the Ghost Festival (i.e. prepare x amount of paper money for the underworld during the Ghost Festival)

Second column: Shangfeng XX (i.e.: respectfully presented to XX)

The third column: XX received it (i.e., the deceased XXX received it)

The fourth column: filial piety XX sacrifice (i.e.: filial piety XXXX in the world)

The fifth column: Tianyun XX year XX month XX day of kneeling and burning (i.e. the date of kneeling and burning in the lunar calendar)

Precautions

1. Different generations have different titles, usually going back four generations, namely ancestor, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, to show "loyalty and respect for ancestors."

2. Honorific titles are on the right for men and on the left for women. The ways they refer to themselves also naturally change, and the corresponding names are: son, grandson, great-grandson, and great-great-grandson.

3. A big “封” character should be written on the joint of the back of the cloth to indicate that it is sealed. Other ghosts are not allowed to open it and read it at will.
