Taboos on the wedding day

Modern people’s marriages are all arranged by their elders, but how can the people getting married not know about the many taboos? Today I will tell you what taboos there are on your wedding day.

1. Avoid getting married in the sixth month of the lunar calendar, as it means having a wife for half a month.

2. On the engagement day, no matter how hot the weather is, all guests attending the engagement are not allowed to fan themselves, otherwise it will be considered as breaking up the relationship.

3. Avoid getting married in the ghost month of the seventh lunar month.

4. When placing the bed, put it in the correct position and avoid placing it opposite to the sharp corners of a table, wardrobe or any object.

5. After the bed is set up until the eve of the wedding night, the groom-to-be should avoid sleeping alone in the new bed. If it is unavoidable, he can find a person with an important zodiac sign (such as the dragon) or an underage boy to sleep with him.

6. When the bride leaves her parents' home, the harder she cries, the better, which means "crying brings wealth, and not crying brings no wealth."

7. After the engagement banquet, neither party can say goodbye, otherwise it will seem like they are planning to remarry.

8. The dress the bride wears on the wedding day should not have pockets, lest it take away wealth from her family.

9. On the wedding day, when the bride goes out, her aunts and sisters-in-law must avoid her and cannot see her off; this is because “姑” (gu) and “孤” (gu) have the same pronunciation, while “嫂” (sao) and “扫” (sao) have the same pronunciation, both of which are unlucky words.
