The August 1st Nanchang Uprising was an armed resistance launched by the Chinese Communist Party's army against the Kuomintang's policy of splitting the Communist Party from the Chinese Communist Party on August 1, 1927 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. Led by Zhou Enlai, Tan Pingshan, Ye Ting, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng and He Long. The Nanchang Uprising fired the first shot in the armed resistance against the Kuomintang reactionaries and marked the beginning of the Chinese Communist Party's independent leadership of the armed struggle and the creation of a revolutionary army. August 1 is the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

August 1st of every year is the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, so it is also called the “August 1st” Army Day. On July 11, 1933, the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic, based on the proposal of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission on June 30, decided to designate August 1 as the founding anniversary of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. On June 15, 1949, the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Commission issued an order to use the words "August 1" as the main symbol of the flag and emblem of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, this anniversary was renamed the Chinese People's Liberation Army Day.
