Generally, the God of Wealth is welcomed on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, because this day is considered the God of Wealth Festival. So after the first day of the Lunar New Year, the next most important activity is to welcome the God of Wealth. On the night before the God of Wealth’s birthday, each family prepares a banquet to celebrate the God of Wealth.

The correct way to welcome the God of Wealth

1. If you have an altar for the God of Wealth in your home, then you must clean the altar, prepare candles, offerings and a petition to receive blessings and fortune from the God of Wealth. The petition must not be sloppy, and try to use a formal petition to welcome the God of Wealth that has been consecrated. After 11 o'clock at night on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, it is the Zi hour of the fifth day. This is the best time to worship the God of Wealth. Therefore, after 11 o'clock at night on the fourth day of the New Year, open the door of your house and turn on the lights (because the God of Wealth does not enter a dark room), devoutly offer sacrifices to the God of Wealth in front of the altar and read the petition aloud (slowly, word by word). After reading the petition, burn the petition together with paper money in the incense burner (never burn them on the ground), which can bring good fortune for the year.

2. If you don’t have an altar for the God of Wealth at home, and if you have the conditions to go to a temple or Taoist temple, then try to go on the fourth night of the New Year and start burning incense after 11pm. When burning incense, don't forget to use the petition to welcome the God of Wealth. After you finish burning incense, try to hurry home. The wealth bestowed upon you by the God of Wealth is to be brought home, not taken anywhere else.

3. If you have an altar for the God of Wealth at home and you cannot go to the temple, you can still welcome the God of Wealth at home. That is to open the door and turn on the lights after 11 o'clock at night on the fourth day of the New Year. Prepare incense, candles, offerings and a petition to receive blessings and fortune from the God of Wealth. Stand at the door facing the altar of the God of Wealth that year and follow the first rule. You can also welcome the God of Wealth and be blessed with good fortune for the whole year.
