Duke Wen of Jin designated the day after Cold Food Festival as Qingming Festival. The Cold Food Festival was established to commemorate Jie Zitui, a loyal minister of the State of Jin. The reason for changing the Cold Food Festival to Qingming Festival was because of a poem Jie Zitui left before his death:

I will sacrifice my flesh and blood to serve you with all my heart, and I hope that you will always be clear-headed.

I have no regrets in my grave, and I will continue to work diligently and honestly.

The next year, when Duke Wen of Jin was offering sacrifice to Jie Zitui, he designated that day as Qingming Festival.
