Why do we visit graves on the third day of the first lunar month?

Going to the graves on the third day of the first lunar month is to express gratitude to the ancestors and to have a better blessing;
During the Spring Festival, each day has its own unique customs. In the old days, on the third day of the first lunar month, it was necessary to burn the pine and cypress branches used during the New Year's Festival as well as the door gods and paper money hung during the festival, to indicate that the previous year had truly passed. Hence the saying "burn the door god paper and look for life on your own." Moreover, visiting the new grave on the third day of the Lunar New Year is a way to express gratitude to the ancestors and to seek good fortune. Therefore, the work of repairing the tomb must be done well, the grass on the grave should be pulled out to make it clean. In some places, some green willow branches will be broken off and inserted on the tomb, and then bowing will be performed.

What are the rules for visiting graves on the third day of the first lunar month?

1. According to custom, the order of tomb sweeping is to sweep the tomb first, that is, to clean the cemetery, and then to offer sacrifices. When sweeping the graves, people bring wine, food, fruits, paper money and other items to the cemetery, offer the food in front of their relatives' graves, burn the paper money, add new soil to the graves, repair the graves, break off a few green branches and insert them on the graves, and put some paper money on top so that others can see that there are still descendants in this grave, and then kowtow and pay their respects.
2. Do not laugh or yell when visiting the graves. The cemetery is the resting place of the ancestors, so you should not step over the tombs and offerings, make loud noises, laugh, curse, use foul language, run around, or urinate anywhere. Doing so is disrespectful to your ancestors. You are not allowed to trample on other people's graves or comment on the design of the tomb, as it will be regarded as blasphemy.
