When is the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva? How many birthdays does Guanyin Bodhisattva have?

There is a saying that men worship Guanyin and women believe in Buddhism. Nowadays, everyone likes to go to the temple to worship Guanyin when they have something to do, because Guanyin Bodhisattva has boundless power and can make wishes come true. So when is Guanyin Bodhisattva’s birthday? How many birthdays does Guanyin Bodhisattva have?

When is the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva?

Guanyin Bodhisattva has three birthdays on the 19th day of the second month, the 19th day of the sixth month, and the 19th day of the ninth month in the lunar calendar.

1. Birthday (the 19th day of the second lunar month) is the day when the Bodhisattva was born;

Most Buddhist disciples believe that February 19th is the birthday of Guanyin, so on February 19th, young women go to the Guanyin Festival to pray for children.

2. Enlightenment (the 19th day of the sixth lunar month) is the day when the Bodhisattva attains enlightenment;

Originally refers to the day when Guanyin drifted to the South China Sea. The main custom of the people is burning incense. However, the lotus flowers in the Haixin Pavilion area were in full bloom, so the tourists and incense burners were crowded on the willow-shaded road like carp crossing a river. Guanyin Mountain is far away, so people who come for pleasure or to burn incense are reluctant to make the journey. Therefore, there are only a few hundred people at any gathering on Guanyin Mountain.

3. Becoming a monk (9th day of the 9th lunar month) is the day when the Bodhisattva becomes a monk;

On September 19th, there is a meeting at Haixin Pavilion. Buddhist disciples call this the day when Guanyin attained enlightenment, and many men and women in the city go to the temple to burn incense. There are also many people who come here for entertainment.

How to kneel down and worship Guanyin Bodhisattva on her birthday?

When worshipping Buddha, it is advisable to follow the Buddhist rules. The way of worshipping Buddha is different from the secular rules. The following is a detailed description of the way of worshipping Buddha:

(1) Stand in front of the cushion with your hands (fingers together) and palms (slanting upward) in front of your chest. Make your feet into a figure eight position, with the heels about two inches apart and the toes about eight inches apart.

(ii) Place your right palm downward and press it on the center of the mat. Keep your left palm still and kneel on the mat with your knees apart.

(3) Press your left palm on the left side of the cushion in front of you;

(iv) Move your right palm from the center to the right side of the cushion, with the two palms about six inches apart.

(5) Place your head on the cushion between your palms;

(6) Turn your palms outwards (palms facing upwards, with the intention of supporting the Buddha’s feet with your hands and head touching the feet);

(VII) Bend the fingers of both hands and turn them over, and press them on the cushion again;

(8) The head leaves the cushion and rises from the prone position;

(9) Move your right palm to the center of the cushion;

(10) Take your left palm off the cushion and place it in front of your chest as if you were joining your palms together.

(11) Use your right palm to prop up your body (both knees leave the cushion at the same time), and place your left palm in front of your chest. This is one bow. Do a minimum of three bows. If you want to do more, add three more times, such as six, nine, twelve, etc.
There is another ritual after bowing, like the common bowing, called "wenxun". It is when you put your hands together in front of your chest just after bowing, and then slightly tilt your palms downward (this is bowing) and place them near your abdomen. Then place the right palm inside the left palm, fold them into a fist, and slowly raise them from bottom to top to the level of the eyebrows (at this time you are already bowing straight), and then slowly lower both hands and put them together in front of the chest, palms facing up, fold the right hand on top of the left hand, and touch the two thumbs together. This is the Great Samadhi Seal (The Amitabha Seal is when the left hand is folded on top of the right, and the rest are the same as the Samadhi Seal). This is the end of the Buddha worship ceremony, just slightly lower your head, and then release your hands and retreat.
