When you are worshipping Buddha, if the incense is broken, it is better to change it.

1. The incense sticks at the incense burning place are of different sizes and thickness, and the quality is difficult to guarantee. It is very likely to break in wind and rain or if you squeeze it too tightly. If the incense stick runs out while you are burning incense, there is no need to panic. Worship the Buddha with a sincere heart and burn another stick of incense to inform the Buddha of the situation.

2. It is a natural phenomenon that the incense stick breaks when burning. Nowadays, many incense sticks have defects and are prone to breaking when burning. This is normal.

Things to pay attention to when burning incense:

1. Light three incense sticks to pray for yourself, six incense sticks to pray for two generations, and nine incense sticks to pray for three generations. And thirteen is an extreme; thirteen incense sticks are high incense that represents complete merit.

2. Burn incense first and then kowtow. When burning incense, you should hold the incense in your left hand and the candle in your right hand, because most people use their right hand to kill chickens and cut fish. If you are left-handed, you should do the opposite.

3. When burning incense, light the incense first. The brighter the better. People often say that the incense is strong. Hold the incense with your left hand on top and your right hand on the bottom, and raise it above your head to bow.

1. Basic actions of burning incense

1. Light the incense.

2. Hold the incense stick with the middle and index fingers of both hands, and press the tail of the incense with your thumb.

3. Place the incense stick in front of your chest, with the tip of the incense stick facing the Bodhisattva statue.

2. Method of inserting incense

1. The first method of burning incense is to insert the first incense stick in the center, and recite silently while inserting it: "Offerings to the Three Treasures of the Ten Directions and Three Times." The second incense stick is inserted on the right, and recite silently while inserting it: "Offerings to all parents and teachers in all past lives." The third incense stick is inserted on the left side, and while inserting it, silently recite: "I offer offerings to all sentient beings in the ten directions of the universe and to all those who have grievances and obstacles against me."

2. The second method of burning incense is to turn right first and chant: "I vow to give up all evil." Then turn left and chant: "I vow to cultivate all good." At the end, recite: "I vow to save all sentient beings."

3. Silently Recite in Your Heart

1. After lighting the incense, put your palms together and silently say in your heart: "May this cloud of incense and flowers reach directly to the Three Jewels (or: directly to the Buddhas), begging for great compassion and bestowing happiness on all living beings." If you are holding a ring of incense, you should face the Buddha with the lit part, and hold it with your hands as if you were holding a long incense stick. When holding the incense, just recite silently: "I offer offerings to the Three Treasures of the ten directions and three times. May this cloud of incense and flowers reach the Three Treasures directly, beg for great compassion, and bestow happiness on all living beings."

2. When using sandalwood (small branches made from split sandalwood), hold the two ends of the incense with the thumbs and index fingers of both hands, and stretch out the middle finger, ring finger, and little finger, raise them to the level of your eyebrows, and put them into the incense burner from front to back; pick up the first stick of sandalwood with your left hand, and put it in with your right hand; pick up the second stick with your right hand and put it in with your left hand; the third stick is the same as the first. The methods of visualization and silent recitation are the same as when burning long incense.
