If we want to go to the temple to pray for blessings and good luck, we must never start by asking the Bodhisattva to bless us with wealth, peace, and blessings. If you can silently recite three sentences in front of the Buddha, blessings will come to you without asking. Refraining from doing evil is the core of Buddhism. If we want to obtain blessings, we must first learn to stop doing evil and do good. Otherwise, it will be useless no matter how many Bodhisattvas you pray to. If you believe in Buddhism, you must believe in cause and effect and not do anything that goes against cause and effect. When we worship Buddha, what really makes the Buddha and Bodhisattva bless you are these three sentences. Refraining from all evil is the fundamental good cause for obtaining blessings. If you do not plant this good cause, it will be useless no matter how much incense you burn or how many Buddhas you worship. For a person who often kills, is unfilial, commits adultery, and tells lies, it is of no use for him to worship Bodhisattva. Only when he eliminates the evil thoughts in his heart will Bodhisattva bless him. The second sentence: Practice all good deeds. Buddhism is not a method for people to pray to Buddha, wealth, or blessings, but it is a method for people to stop doing evil and do good, and to cultivate and realize by themselves. When we go to the temple to worship Buddha, we should not think about getting something for nothing, but learn to do many good causes. Only by learning to do many good deeds can you get the most useful good causes for obtaining blessings. The third sentence: Purify your mind. Do not do evil, practice all good, and purify your mind; this is the teaching of all Buddhas. If you believe in Buddhism, you must understand Buddhism and understand Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Only in this way can you benefit most from worshipping Buddha.
