I believe everyone is familiar with the act of burning incense. It is a practice that occurs when offering sacrifices to ancestors, visiting graves, praying for blessings and eliminating disasters, and worshipping gods and Buddhas. So how do we make judgments based on incense? Three incense sticks burning incense 72 diagram 1. Peace incense: peace and safety. Meaning: It means that everything is safe in the current stage including family, work, career, social life, etc. Meaning: There is no one in the world who does not want peace. The real cause of peace is to obey the law, love the country, refrain from evil, and practice all good. Whenever there is unrest at home or at work, we light peace incense to remind us to judge what we are doing to see if it complies with the law, public sentiment, or whether it involves killing, stealing, adultery, etc. Promote the good and eliminate the evil immediately. This is the meaning of the peace incense appearing in times of adversity. The appearance of peace incense in times of prosperity is a wake-up call for us. If we disobey the law, are unpatriotic, or behave in a way that harms others, we must adjust immediately. This will keep us safe at all times. 2. Mourning clothes and incense: Mourning clothes must be worn in the home within seven days. Symbolism: Mourning clothes remind us to respect all living beings, or within seven days someone in the family should wear mourning clothes to participate in memorial ceremonies. Meaning: Filial incense has two meanings. One is to remind us that we have loopholes in being filial to our parents, respecting our teachers, and being filial to all living beings. Filial piety means being obedient. The second is to remind us of our deceased loved ones. Regardless of whether the deceased is a family member or a relative, the only solution is to release a large number of animals. This is especially important when the deceased is seriously ill. 3. Longevity
Longevity incense: add the left one and the right one will increase, add the right one and the left one will decrease. Meaning: There is a long-term blessing in the family. Meaning: The maintenance of nature is achieved through compassion, not killing, or releasing animals. If there is a seriously ill person in the family, once the scent of Zengze incense appears, it is mainly to remind us to abstain from killing and release animals, as relying on hospitals for treatment is one-sided. Another meaning of Masuseka is to affirm the good deeds we are doing. Longevity-reducing incense: Meaning: Some of your actions in the near future may shorten your life and result in a short life. Meaning: Short life means that one could live to be eighty years old, but died at the age of only sixty, dying twenty years early. Nowadays, some people die of cancer in their thirties or forties. These are all short-lived phenomena. The main causes of short-sleeves are killing and eating meat. Killing is killing yourself, killing is killing your children, eating meat is eating your parents, and eating meat is an accomplice of killing. It is a violation of the law and the result will be diseases and disasters in old age. Those who kill a lot will have difficulty getting past the 40-year-old mark, those who kill a little will have difficulty getting past the 50-year-old mark, and those who eat a lot of meat will have difficulty getting past the 60-year-old mark. Illnesses and disasters will continue to occur. It is not scary to find out that you will die young. As long as you follow these eight words, "abstain from killing, release animals, eat vegetarian food, and chant Buddha's name", you can 100% prevent the retribution of short life. The best time to prevent short life is to start from childhood. Studies in the United States have shown that the blood vessels of children as old as eight have begun to harden. Therefore, if you want to be healthy, it is best to be a lifelong vegetarian. Eating meat to increase nutrition is a heresy. 4. Lu
Increase Lu incense: add it on the left and the right will increase it, add it on the right and the left will decrease it. Meaning: We will have the joy of advancement in our career. Meaning: Only if a person often performs altruistic good deeds to protect the country, the law, and the people's livelihood throughout his life can he have an official position in the next life. The appearance of Luxiang reminds us to be honest and clean in government, or that something you are doing (others think you are a coward, but in fact it increases your fortune and good karma, and your younger generation will have the possibility of becoming a high official. Reduce incense: Illustration: In the near future, some of your actions will damage your good karma, such as violating national laws, enforcing laws in violation of discipline, enforcing laws excessively, encroaching on state property, plundering the people's wealth, using public power for personal gain, extracting confessions under torture, creating unjust cases, framing others, etc. If you do the above-mentioned evil deeds, you will see a reduction in your fortune. The sign of reduction is that the son is not as good as the father, the grandson is not as good as the son, and one generation is not as good as the previous one, falling downward like a mountain stream. Meaning: Reduction of salary is the result of past bad karma, and one’s official position will be demoted. Both indicate that there are illegal loopholes at this stage. The third is to remind us to correct our wrong behaviors quickly, otherwise we may lose our official position. How to adjust the reduction of salary? Work selflessly out of patriotism, law-abidingness and love for the people. 5. Little Innocent
Little Innocent: The gods are at the altar, and incense is burned quickly. Symbolism: When the gods descend to the altar or the guardian gods from heaven come to inspect the work, burning incense quickly means that one must strictly observe the precepts and not dare to do anything arrogant. It is a mistake to believe that when the gods arrive, one should quickly burn another full bag of incense to offer treasures to the gods and to welcome them. Meaning: The duties of the deity as the guardian deity are, firstly, to assess your practice, and secondly, to remind you not to break the precepts. Thirdly, the Buddha’s presence at the altar is to remind us to spread the Dharma, while the gods’ presence at the altar is to remind us to protect the Dharma. Protecting the Dharma means protecting those who spread the Dharma in the temple, and not protecting those who do not spread the Dharma. The fourth one means that there are aspects of your current life that hinder the unity of the temple. You must correct them as soon as possible, otherwise there will be trouble. 6. Da Tianzhen
Tianzhen incense: When the Buddha comes to the altar, burn incense quickly. Symbolism: The Buddha or his messenger comes to inspect the work and remind people not to slack off in their practice. Mistakenly believe that the Buddha has come, so quickly burn another full incense stick to show sincerity. Meaning: The true meaning of Tathagata is to refrain from doing evil and to practice all good. Once the Buddha arrives at the altar. ① It reminds us that something we are doing now is evil or illegal. Committing evil and breaking the law are things that happen in life and work, and do not refer to burning incense during Buddhist activities, right? ② Buddha is a teacher, and he reminds us to be filial to our parents and respect our teachers. How can we be filial to our parents? After parents pass away, we should recite the "Earth Store Sutra" to help them to be reborn in the Pure Land. In this world, we should guide them to convert to Buddhism and recite the Buddha's name, and seek rebirth in the Pure Land. Have you done all of these? ③ Burning incense quickly means that those who have not converted should hurry to convert, those who have not received precepts should hurry to receive precepts, and after receiving precepts should hurry to turn from evil to good. If your parents have not converted, you should hurry up and lead them to convert. If your friends have not converted, you should hurry up and lead them to convert. Those who have converted should hurry up and find a teacher to improve their precepts. Those who don't know how to spread Buddhism should hurry up and spread Buddhism. 7. Life-urging incense
Life-urging incense: someone will die within the month or a minor injury will occur within half a year. Meaning: The Black and White Impermanence are here to claim your life. Someone in your family will be in danger of losing his life during this month. Meaning: Urging one’s life to be fulfilled is the actual retribution for bad consequences, which refers to the retribution for short life. The death of normal causes is not called urging one’s life to be fulfilled. When a cat, dog, cow, horse or sheep dies in the family, it is also called a life-urging incense. The appearance of life-urging incense does not necessarily mean that a person will die. The only way to avoid being killed is to abstain from killing and release animals. 8. Gift of wealth incense
Increasing wealth incense: there is a sign of increasing wealth within ten days. Interpretation: There is a sign of making money in the short term. Meaning: Money is the source of life. As long as you can be born as a human being, you must have wealth in your life. It’s just that the amount of wealth varies. Those who gave a lot in the previous life will be rich in this life, and those who gave little in the previous life will be poor in this life. There are two meanings of wealth-increasing incense. First, when we need to find someone to do something and it has been delayed, we use wealth-increasing incense to remind us to increase the amount of funds. When we increase our wealth, things will be done successfully quickly. The appearance of the wealth-increasing incense when things are going well is a reminder that our plans are correct and we can do them with confidence, and we will be happy to make money in the future. 9. Fragrance of small lotus
Small lotus: Within three days someone will come to meet you with good fortune. Meaning: Within three days, kind people will come to help or ask for help. Meaning: (1) In our lives, it is normal for people to help each other. (2) If we make mistakes in our work, within three days the guardian deities will come to us to help us stop doing evil and start doing good. You should accept this with an open mind. (3) When people around us are in trouble, we should step forward to take care of them and help them. These are good deeds, so it is said that good things will happen to us. 10. Big Lotus Fragrance
Big Lotus: wealth and happiness will come within seven days. Meaning: You will be happy to gain wealth within seven days. Meaning: One is to express appreciation for the charity practice that you are currently performing. Secondly, the lotus grows out of the mud but remains unstained, reminding us not to follow the trend of the five turbidities and evil times. Only by practicing charity widely can we obtain the wonderful principle of wealth and joy. 11. Offering Daphne odora
Offering Daphne odora: There will be auspicious signs within three days. Meaning: Within three days, the illness or disaster in the family will get better, there will be wealth and promotion, all of which are signs of good fortune. Meaning: Xianrui is an affirmation of your current stage of practice. When Xianrui appears in adversity, it means that our disaster will soon be over. When Xianruixiang appears in prosperity, it means that our merits are complete and all blessings will be bestowed. 12. Mouth and tongue fragrance
Mouth and tongue fragrance: Within seven days, a vicious person will come to argue with you. Meaning: Recently, there are evil people who are spreading rumors or stirring up trouble. Meaning: Gossiping is a violation of the precept against lying. On the one hand, it reminds us not to gossip, curse others, or gossip about others. The second is that within seven days someone talks about other people’s wrongs. The person who talks about other people’s wrongs is not necessarily a stranger. As long as someone says that others are wrong, they are talking about other people’s wrongs. The third means that no matter who says it, you should not believe it, don’t believe in rumors, don’t spread rumors, and don’t speak ill of others. 13. Incense of Immortality
Incense of Immortality: Someone will come to invite you within three days. Symbolism: Within three days, good people will come and establish a relationship with us. This invitation refers to doing good deeds, not an invitation to play mahjong, dance, gamble, go to red-light districts, go fishing, shoot birds, travel and chat, etc. If it is an evil thing, avoid it. Meaning: Those who study and practice the Dharma often encounter holy causes, are often helped by gods and immortals, and do not meet evil people. This is also the appreciation of the guardian gods for our current method of practice. This invitation needs to be distinguished as good or evil. We should follow the good ones and avoid the evil ones. 14. Evil Fragrance
Evil Little Fragrance: Within seven days someone will come to argue with you. Meaning: Within seven days, someone will come to argue with you. Meaning: We must endure humiliation and not compete with others for superiority or right and wrong. This applies to the workplace, family, friends, and the temple. Not talking about other people's past is the key to survival and the basis for dealing with things in peace. For people with heavy karma, it is not appropriate to adopt the method of criticism; rather, the method of praise should be adopted. For wise people, it is okay to offer criticism. 15. Disease Incense
Disease Incense: People who will be sick within seven days. Symbolism: Within seven days, there will be disease or disaster, either to humans or animals. Meaning: The incense of disease is a metaphor for vaccination, which reminds us not to create causes for disease. There are as many as twenty-five causes of disease. Generally speaking, the solution to disease is not to harm any living being. Abstaining from killing and releasing animals is the main solution to disease and disaster. 16. Disaster-eliminating incense
Disaster-eliminating incense: Disasters will be eliminated and all blessings will come. Meaning: After suffering comes happiness, good times will come. Semantic meaning: The causes of the disaster are formed by the following aspects: ① Disobeying the law and being unpatriotic in life. ② Being disrespectful to parents, teachers, and the Three Jewels. ③Killing. ④Theft. ⑤ Improper sexual relations, etc. The appearance of disaster-eliminating incense during times of adversity is a reminder that our bad luck is about to end and good luck will come. In fact, waiting is not the best way to end the leather transport. The best way is to change to a place where people do not obey the law and are not patriotic, a place where people are not filial to their parents and do not respect their teachers, a place where people do not respect the Three Jewels, and to stop killing and release them, stop stealing and give alms, stop committing adultery and practice good deeds. By doing this, the Piyun will end sooner or may not occur at all. When the incense for eliminating disasters appears in times of prosperity, it is a reminder that some of the projects in your current work or family have hidden dangers. The extent of these hidden dangers is enough to constitute a disaster. Therefore, when things are safe, the master reminds you to eliminate disasters, change your wrong behaviors, and achieve the auspicious sign of a hundred blessings. A hundred blessings refer to blessings without any disasters mixed in. If one is in a high position but is plagued by illness, it is not a hundred blessings but a hundred disasters. How to solve the problem of disaster? The only way is to stop doing evil. Nanman means to eliminate all evil thoughts. If we do not eliminate all evil thoughts, there is no hope that disasters will be eliminated. Only by eliminating all evil can disasters be eliminated and blessings be born. 17. Thief who steals incense
Thief who steals incense: There are bandits in the morning and thieves in the evening. Meaning: There is a worry about losing money. Meaning: The appearance of financial loss is the result of not giving charity. First, it reminds you to practice giving charity; second, it reminds you that something you are doing now has the intention of stealing; third, it reminds us that our current family property is stolen. The origin of the family property of the four is unknown. The only way to prevent thieves from stealing is to give alms. The fifth reminder is that when you can't bear to let go, your son will not study hard, squander the family's wealth, and squander all your abnormal income in this life. The thief is none other than your own son. 18. Incense of Bliss
Incense of Bliss: Those who cultivate to immortality will naturally achieve the golden elixir, and common people will eventually achieve happiness and blessing. Illustration: Immortal practitioners and common people refer to those who study Buddhism. When small results appear, they should redouble their efforts and continue to move forward. Meaning: People who practice Buddhism tend to become lazy after a long time. At this time, the Dharma Protector will remind you that your efforts will not be in vain, but your past karma is heavy and the blessings cannot be manifested for the time being. As a result, you may feel discouraged and regretful. In this case, Master will give you hope, explain the truth of cause and effect that will eventually bear fruit, and encourage you to practice diligently. On the other hand, speaking of cultivating concentration, the state of concentration is obtained by observing the precepts. Those who strictly observe the precepts will naturally develop concentration over time. When concentration reaches a certain level, wisdom and supernatural powers will appear, and these are all blissful things. 19. Merit Incense
Merit Incense: Complete merits and deeds, and the silent blessing of gods. Illustration: Only when there are no loopholes in your practice can the gods silently bless you. Meaning: Merit is kindness from the heart, and action is virtue. In terms of the causes of health, refraining from killing (not killing) is merit, and releasing life is virtue. Those who can do both refraining from killing and releasing life are said to have complete merit and action, and only then can the gods bless them silently. If one can only abstain from killing but cannot release animals, or can only release animals but cannot abstain from killing, this is not a complete meritorious deed, but a good deed with leaks. The gods cannot bless good deeds with leaks. For example: stopping evil is merit, and cultivating good is virtue, and those who stop evil and cultivate good at the same time have complete merit and virtue. Those who have performed perfect deeds will naturally be blessed by the gods. If one can only stop doing evil but cannot cultivate good, or can only cultivate good but cannot stop doing evil, then one cannot be said to have complete merits and deeds. Those who are not perfect in their merits and deeds are said to have good mixed in with evil or evil mixed in with good. The gods will not bless the appearance of these loopholes. What is evil? All acts of not abiding by the law, not being patriotic, not observing the precepts, not being filial to parents, and not respecting teachers are evil. So when the incense of merit appears: ① The merit and virtue you have cultivated are complete, and the gods are silently blessing you. ② Your cultivation method may be lacking in merit or morality, which prompts you to plug the loopholes, and then the gods can bless you silently. ③ The appearance of the incense of merit in times of adversity reminds you that you lack merit and talents, and things cannot be successfully accomplished, like a student’s lack of two factors. Therefore, we should give charity vigorously. ④ The appearance of incense of merit when things are going well means that your merits are complete. ⑤The gods refer to the guardian gods. Whether they bless you silently or not depends on whether your actions are in line with the law of cause and effect. 20. Incense of Heaven and Earth
Incense of Heaven and Earth: Collecting incense from heaven and earth, burning incense quickly. Symbolism: The gods of heaven and earth come to the altar to supervise the work, and one must be diligent in observing the precepts. Meaning: Heaven has the Ten Virtues, Earth has the Five Precepts, and the gods of heaven and earth come to the altar to see our practice to see if there are any loopholes in the Five Precepts or the Ten Virtues. If there are any leaks, plug them immediately. Burning incense quickly means that those who have not entered Buddhism should hurry to enter Buddhism, and entering Buddhism means taking refuge. After taking refuge, one must work hard to observe the Five Precepts. Those who can observe the Five Precepts should diligently practice the Ten Good Deeds. Those who can observe the Ten Good Deeds should diligently practice meditation. Burning incense quickly is like going to a gas station, and it reminds us not to slack off in our practice. 21. Cheng Lin Xiang
Cheng Lin Xiang: Do good deeds and establish virtues, and you will have your own guardian; do good deeds and you will have the blessing of heaven. Symbolizes: Those who have complete merits, are protected by good spirits, and practice the ten good deeds will naturally ascend to heaven. Meaning: ① It means that our practice has reached a certain level, we are protected by good spirits, and we ascend to heaven to enjoy bliss. ② It means that the things you are planning now seem to be disadvantageous, but with the help of God (Heavenly Appearance means God’s help), the loss will be compensated in the future, some of which will be compensated by your children, and some of which will be compensated by your work later. Therefore, even if you suffer losses, have to be tolerant, and are looked down upon by others, as long as it is a good deed that benefits all living beings, it will be protected by the good gods in heaven. Please feel free to do it boldly. 22. Urgent incense for offerings
Urgent incense for offerings: Within three days, a patriarch will come to collect incense, so make offerings quickly. Example: Within three days, the master will come to inspect your work, so you must practice diligently. Meaning: The founding master comes to check the disciples' homework, which includes four aspects: one is the observance of precepts; two is chanting Buddha's name and reciting scriptures; three is social contribution; and four is whether the greed, anger, and ignorance are completely eliminated. If any loopholes are found, they should be corrected immediately. The appearance of offering incense when you are making diligent efforts is a reminder that there are loopholes in your practice. Or not upgraded in time. The appearance of incense when you are lazy is to remind you to make progress. 23. Blessing-increasing incense
Blessing-increasing incense: Good fortune and prosperity will come to you within ten days. Meaning: There will be happy events in the next few days. Meaning: Fortune, wealth and luck are the three treasures of life. Fu represents wealth. With blessings, everything will be convenient; Lu refers to official position; and 笀 refers to health. Blessings are obtained by giving widely. We say that the more you give, the greater the gain; the smaller you give, the smaller the gain; if you don't give, you will gain nothing. If you practice charity, you will gain as much as your husband; if you practice charity, you will gain as much as your wife. The salary comes from protecting the country, the laws and the people. We let students establish the goal of studying or taking exams for the sake of the country and the benefit of the general public, which is the seeds for them to become officials in the future. The "笀" is obtained from abstaining from killing and releasing animals. The appearance of the incense for increasing blessings is a criticism of your foolish idea of being solely focused on seeking wealth and not knowing how to give money as alms. The appearance of blessing-increasing incense in times of adversity is a reminder for you to give charity. When you are in good times, the incense that brings you blessings appears to remind you to give charity. Good luck and happiness are all rewards for good deeds. Without the causes of good thoughts, good words and good deeds, the result is karma. How can you be free if you are entangled by karma? A person who is not free will never be successful in anything. 24. Cuidanxiang
Cuidanxiang: Taoists can produce elixir, become light and strong, and common people can grow wise, blessed and wealthy. Meaning: People who study hard will be healthy and free from illness and disaster. Those who diligently practice giving have both wisdom and merit. Meaning: Taoism does not refer exclusively to Taoist priests. All those who practice Taoism are called Taoists. Shengdan refers to the practice of meditation, which also includes refraining from killing, releasing animals and eating vegetarian food. Common people refer to good people with virtue. They practice Dharma and make donations of money on a daily basis. When the rewards come, they will become wiser, more blessed and wealthy. When people who do not know how to practice meditation experience the aroma of the elixir-inducing fragrance, it is a reminder for us to practice meditation. The appearance of the incense that encourages elixir-inducing aroma to those who are practicing meditation is a reminder for you to practice diligently to reach the state of the five eyes and six supernatural powers.
