The origin of the Earth Hour event on March 26, 2011

Earth Hour is an initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to address global climate change. It hopes that individuals, communities, businesses and governments will turn off their lights for one hour from 20:30 to 21:30 on the last Saturday of March each year to show their support for actions to address climate change. Climate change caused by excessive carbon dioxide emissions has now posed a great threat to human survival on Earth. Only by changing global attitudes towards CO2 emissions can the public mitigate the impact of this threat on the world. From 20:30 to 21:30 on March 26, 2011, Earth Hour will once again spark the voluntary participation of cities, businesses and individuals around the world to turn off unnecessary lights together during this hour and pray for a sustainable future for the Earth.
